If you get Michael Todd talking about what makes Brookfield Residential homes better, he might mention ZIP board. “ZIP board is a solid OSB (editor’s note: that’s oriented strand board) that’s used as the exterior veneer of the house,” Michael explains. “None of our competitors are using ZIP board, and our models are going up with it. To save money or time, some builders use a product called T-ply, which is basically laminated cardboard. ZIP has a built-in weather barrier, so we’re upping the level of construction on the frame. The ZIP board gets covered up with brick or stucco, but we start with a higher quality product underneath.”
As Director of Construction for Brookfield Residential, it’s Michael’s job to pay attention to these small but important details, many of which our customers never see because they’re inside the walls. The details add up — everything from choosing high quality materials to making sure the framing is finished correctly makes a difference when it comes to the long-term durability of a home.
It was Brookfield Residential’s dedication to the customer experience that made Michael want to be a part of the company. “One of the things that drew me to Brookfield Residential was the customer experience component — the fact that there is a Director of Customer Experience (CX) and a Customer Experience Division,” Michael says. “In every decision we make, we ask what the impact of our decision will be to the customer. Even in the process of contracting our vendors and choosing the materials in our houses, we don’t just go with the lowest bidder or go with what’s standard. We look at what competitors are doing, but also what’s best for our buyers.”
Micheal is excited to see Brookfield Residential become a homebuilder in The Grove Frisco. “We have all new floor plans for this community — they were designed just for this buyer and market” Michael says. “We have 2 model homes ready to go through city inspection, and our first 9 prototypes are underway. People are going to love these homes — there are some really special features.”
